Chail is a tiny, little known hill station tucked away in the hills of Himachal Pradesh, approx. 49 km from Shimla. This petite little hill station is blessed with nature’s bounty and is the perfect place for nature lovers to soak in all that nature has to offer. The hill station is still in the early stages of tourism and as such the region is not very overcrowded and wears a fresh look, along with holding onto its old-world charm, which has increasingly become a rarity in today’s urbanized world. The lack of too much crowd makes Chail the perfect destination for people looking for an escape far away from the regular tourist hot spots.
Historical Attractions
This tiny little hill station along with having a spectacular natural beauty, which gets travelers spellbound, the region also has an interesting history behind its very establishment. During the British rule Maharaja Adhiraj Bhupinder Singh of Patiala was barred by Lord Kitchener from setting feet in Shimla, then the summer capital of British India. Furious at this insult in the hands of the British, Maharaja Adhiraj Bhupinder Singh vowed to build himself his very own summer resort according to his needs and requirements and thus, was born Chail, the summer capital of his highness Maharaja Adhiraj Bhupinder Singh of Patiala.
Remnants of the region’s glorious past are still reflected among the various royal buildings and monuments, a number of which have been transformed into Government organizations, educational institutions, and hotels among others.
The highest cricket and polo ground
Chail home to the highest cricket and polo ground offers several interesting tourist attractions, for instance, the Sidh Baba Ka Mandir, the Cricket Ground, Wildlife Sanctuary, Kufri, Sadhu Pool, Chail Palace (transformed into a hotel) and much more.
